How To Use Your BA Mindset To Succeed in Business Analysis

The concept of the business analyst mindset, first outlined in Yulia Kosarenko’s book, is central to this presentation. We look at the key challenges of business analysis and discuss how to approach them with the right mindset. • What is agility and its core values
  • How to apply BA mindset principles in agile environment
  • How to move from traditional to more agile ways of working
Business Analysis Pitfalls

Business analysis is crucial to the success of enterprise change. Business analysts practice their BA tools & techniques, attend conferences and webinars and faithfully earn PDUs.

Why, then, business analysts still fall into these traps? Learn how to be aware of the potential pitfalls of business analysis and what strategies to use to overcome them.

Requirements Don’t Come from Business – They Come from Business Analysis

Business stakeholders have needs and problems, not requirements. Business analysts can’t gather requirements like apples from a tree. Analysis requires research, investigation, comparison, validation, and root cause analysis.

This session will explore what “analysis” really means; what is the difference between information and requirements, symptoms and root causes, gathering and analysis.

Participants will follow an example of discovering the real problem through applying business analysis tools and techniques, including the 5 Why’s technique, and will explore other useful techniques they can apply right away in their jobs.

The goal of the session is to demonstrate how a business analyst brings value through elicitation, investigation, root cause analysis and other higher-level thinking activities.

What Business Analysts Need to Know About Data

Data is what connects business processes and the parts of an organization to create an integrated enterprise. We need data to develop the right products, to connect to our customers at the right time, and to run the business efficiently. We use data to create value and to solve business problems.

A BA needs to understand the fundamentals of data management and data analysis to provide value to modern data-driven enterprises.
In this workshop, we will review how fundamental concepts of data management apply to business analysis, including:

  • Types and sources of data
  • Data life cycle
  • Data and analytics requirements
  • Role of BA in data governance

3 Data Analysis Techniques Every Business Analyst Should Know

Business problems cannot be solved without understanding data. Yet, many projects face challenges because of data issues – poor data quality, lack of understanding of business data and insufficient enterprise data integrations.

Addressing data requirements is an integral part of the analysis process. In this session, you will learn when and how to use three key data analysis techniques:

  • Data dictionary
  • Conceptual data modelling
  • Data mapping
AI Trends and Business Analysis

Artificial intelligence (AI) is expected to solve a wide range of business problems, and yet many organizations are struggling with getting value out of their AI investments.  Why are the ambitious AI initiatives not living up to expectations? Why do many of them never get to production? And what does it have to do with business analysis?

Business analysts can play a crucial role in the success of any project. This presentation will summarize how business analysis can help an organization set smart goals for AI initiatives and deliver value through successful projects.

Key learnings:

  • Learn about the main AI trends that BAs need to understand
  • Discuss the reasons why AI initiatives fail and how a BA can help
  • Highlight business analysis skills essential for AI success
Power Your Process with Embedded Analytics

Process analysis is essential for any business change. As business analysts tackle this task, they often start with process flows. As processes grow more complex, so do the process flow diagrams. As we try to accommodate the needs of each persona, the processes get more intricate. As we collect more data, each new decision point contributes to making the process jungle denser and less penetrable.

Embedded analytics allows to streamline the process while supporting decision-making in the context and in the moment. Business analysts can play a key role in this transformation – if they expand the scope of business analysis to embrace analytics.

Learning objectives:

  • What is embedded analytics?
  • How can we use embedded analytics for process improvement?
  • How do we define analytics requirements?

The emphasis is on applying a business analyst mindset in dealing with stakeholders.
