This may be the biggest misconception of business analysts that requirements come from business. They usually don’t.
Stakeholders may think they know what they want, but in reality, they know much better what they don’t want. And there is sometimes quite a difference between what they think they want and what they actually need.
Business stakeholders will have needs, wants, problems and pain points. They will provide information. Requirements will come from business analysis.
To build an effective BA practice, you must adopt this philosophy. Encourage your business analysts not to stop at gathering information, but to analyze it. Give them time, space, and support to do it.
