Shared Understanding Tip #5: Review, Refine & Repeat

Achieving a shared understanding of business requirements is an iterative process.

Recap the main points after each requirements discussion – reconfirm agreement.

Restate the problem, objectives and findings before the next meeting. If you see confused faces – recall previous discussion and revisit sticky points.

Make key points visible during discussions – reinforce decisions and conclusions.

Reiterate through complex logic and sets of rules and scenarios to validate and test for gaps.

Refine how you communicate requirements based on feedback from your audience; use different formats and approaches.

Reorganize requirements as more information comes in to build a logical and easy to navigate structure.

Review frequently, and reference what was agreed upon with better confidence as you continue your analysis.
